Wilbur's Story

Wilbur H. (Doc) Matney, 96, Rushville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Millers Merry Manor, Rushville, Indiana.
He married Margret (Clark) Matney she preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1942. Wilbur was born in New Salem, Indiana, on January 1, 1922, a son of the late Earl and Edith (Ruble) Matney. He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in WW II. 1942 to 1945. He also served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in the Korean War. 1950 to 1951. He owned and operated Matney Construction Co for many years.
Wilbur is survived by two daughters, Betty Harmon and Pamela Fields, of Rushville, Indiana.; two sons Steve Matney, of Laurel, Indiana and Noland (Bill) Matney, of Rushville, Indiana. Wilbur is also survived by a sister Karen Land of Rushville, Indiana. He is also survived by 22 Grandchildren, 84 Great Grandchildren and 47 Great Great Grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandparents and 9 sisters and brothers.
Visitation Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Buena Southern Missionary Baptist Church, 25220 Chapel Road, Laurel, Indiana. Funeral will be at the church on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 am. Rev. Rob Edwards will be officiating. Burial at Hopewell Cemetery in Rush County, Indiana. Funeral services entrusted to Burns Funeral Home, Milroy, Indiana. Memorials made to Buena Southern Missionary Baptist Church. Military burial rites will be conducted by the Rush County Honor Guard.
