Ronald  Cox


Ronald E. Cox, 82, of Connersville passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. He was born on October 20, 1936 in Connersville to the late Earnest Cox and Lillian Hartman Cox.
Ronnie attended Connersville High School, after graduation he worked at Rex Manufacturing and then went into partnership with Dick Koons Implement.
Ronnie and Nilah owned and operated their farm in Orange Township, where he took pride in his farm raising livestock and crops. He was always found working.
During his lifetime he served on many boards throughout Fayette County such as the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service board and the Orange Township Advisory Board. He was a past Director of the Fayette Bank & Trust Co., Merchants National Bank and National City Bank, Director of the Fayette County Farm Bureau Inc. and Director of the Fayette County Co-op. He was a member of the Area Planning Commission, of the County Cooperative Extension Board. He served on the Fayette County Council for 2 terms from 2004 until 2012, serving as President during his second term.
Ronnie was a member of the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
Ronnie is a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, where he was the Trustee and served as a chairman of the church board.
For over 50 years he was a member of the Orange Masonic Lodge #234 F&AM;.
Ronnie and his wife, Nilah enjoyed going square dancing at the Raleigh Community Building with friends.
Ronnie enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren with their 4H projects. He was known for helping people out. After he retired from farming he enjoyed mowing, taking care of his garden and woodworking in his shop. He would also meet up with a group of men at Wendy's every morning to visit.
Along with his wife, Nilah Mae Lewark, who he married 62 years ago on December 1, 1956 at Glenwood Christian Church. He will be greatly missed by a daughter, Paula (Jim) Free; three sons, Darrell (Kim) Cox, Duane (Jenny) Cox and Devin (Christine) Cox; 9 grandchildren, Katie (Ben) Rowland, Casey (Ian) Weber, Ashley (Jarrod Pennington) Cox, Tanner (Tabitha Newlun) Cox, Cameron (Meg) Cox, Marissa Cox, Cooper Cox, Dylan Cox and Brody Cox,; a great grandchild, Ivy Weber and another on the way; 4 step grandchildren, Jacob Noah and Benjamin Noah, Brandon (Angie) Boughner, Megan (Brenton) Miller; 3 step great grandchildren, Landon Miller, Carter Miller and Brayden Boughner; a brother, David Cox; and a sister Linda (David) Dungan; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Ronnie will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W. 8th St., Connersville, Indiana 47331. A Memorial Masonic will be conducted by the Orange Masonic Lodge #234 F&AM; at 7:45 pm on Monday. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orange Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM; or to the Fayette County Cancer Society, those can be made at the funeral home.
