Robert L. Harcourt, 98, passed away Wednesday, September 26, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL. He is preceded in death by his father Earl, mother Mary (Brown), wife Rosalie (Montanye), son Daniel, brothers Owen, Maurice, Paul and Kermit. He is survived by son Michael, grandson Brian, granddaughters Rachael, Kate Amy and Elizabeth, ten great grand children, and one great-great grand daughter.
He was a 1938 graduate of Milroy High School where he played basketball. He played basketball at Butler University until WWII took him to Europe and the 8th Army Air Force. He was the flight engineer and top turret gunner on a B17 bomber. On their 8th mission, the second daylight raid on Berlin, the plane was shot down. The crew spent fifteen months as POWs.
After the war he returned to Rush County and farmed for a few years before returning to Butler to complete his education. He was the baseball, basketball and track coach at Milroy High School from 1955 - 1959. He retired as the Guidance Director from Ben Davis High School in Marion County in 1981, and he and wife Rosalie moved to Sebring where he resided for 37 years.
He was active in the church serving as Property Manager, Deacon and Elder. He was an avid golfer and bridge player who cherished family above all else.
There will be a grave side service at Moscow Cemetery at 10:30 AM on Saturday October, 13, 2018.
In lieu of flowers offer a donation to the Alzheimers Foundation.
