Richard's Story

Richard Franklin Wilson, 85, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 in Winchester.
He was born Oct. 14, 1931 to Kenneth C. and Bertha (Martin) Wilson. On April 8, 1953, he married P. Joyce (Redden) Wilson.
Richard was a 1949 graduate of New Salem High School in Rush County, Indiana. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Richard was a Farm Bureau Insurance Salesman for 38 years, where he earned a National Quality award. He was a member of the Main Street Christian Church in Winchester for 45 years, where he served as an elder, deacon, and board member. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester since 2007. He was a Kiwanis member for 50 years and a past president. He volunteered for the HELP fund and fundraiser for Christmas for the needy, for Meals on Wheels, and at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital. Richard was a President and Vice-President for the Winchester Band Aides as well as a former Pack 58 Cub Scout and Webelos Leader. He also served one term on the County Council.
Richard is survived by his wife, P. Joyce (Redden) Wilson; three children, Mark Wilson of Winchester, Donna and husband, Dr. Mark Haggenjos of Portland, and Murray and wife Debbie Wilson of Albany; and four grandchildren, Lee (wife, Stephanie), Lauren, and Liza Haggenjos, and Brittany Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Richard will be at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, with Becky Merriman Gibbons officiating. Burial will follow at the Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester.
