Paul D. Jeffers, age 83, of rural Waynetown, died at 9:53 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Creasy Springs Lafayette. He was born in Vigo County on August 28, 1934, son of the late Theodore and Lorena Jeffers. He married Betty L. Ainsworth on June 9, 1957 in Vigo County and she survives.
Paul was a graduate of Glenn High School in Vigo County. He loved farming from an early age. He bought a farm and moved his family northwest of Waynetown in March of 1964. He enjoyed raising feeder pigs, grain and loved to dairy. Farming wasn't just a chore to him, but something he thoroughly enjoyed. Even following his retirement from active farming, he could be seen 'road farming'...keeping an eye on the community farmers as he drove. Paul especially enjoyed watching the Amish as they farmed. He had been active on the 4-H Inc. Board, Indiana Farm Bureau and had helped at the Indiana State Fair.
Surviving along with his wife Betty, are: a daughter, Carolyn (Mike) Wicker of Rushville, two sons: Gary (Beth) Jeffers of Waynetown and Don (Angie) Jeffers of Waveland. Four grandchildren: Jaret (Pam) Wicker, Quinn (Mike) Wilds, Andrew and Benjamin Jeffers. Great-granddaughter Hope, two sisters: Marjorie Tanner and Jean Zurcher both of Terre Haute and brother Kenneth Jeffers of Ft. Wayne. Paul was preceded in death, by his parents and three brothers: Ted, Robert and Jack.
Visitation hours are, noon - 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 15, 2017 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Mel Vance officiating. Burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Diabetes Assn.
