Martha Alexander, 94, a former Rushville resident, passed away in McKinney, Texas, on May 8, 2017. She was born Sept. 14, 1922 in Rushville to Walter T. and Ruth (Spivey) Ray. Martha was a 1940 Rushville High School graduate. She married Norman W. Alexander on Dec. 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2005.
Martha served as Rush County Recorder from 1975-1982. She worked as Rush County Deputy Auditor for 8 years and Deputy Assessor for 7 years. She was the Vice Precinct committee woman for the Rushville Republican party several years and President of the Rush County Republican Women for 3 terms. Martha was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushville where she served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School teacher. She had also been a member of the Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority, the Fortnightly Study Club and was past Secretary of the Rush County TB Association from 1950-1972.
She is survived by her son, Paul R. Alexander and wife Sheila, of McKinney, Texas; her daughter, Cheryl Spoonamore and husband Lee of Bisbee, Arizona; her brother, Charles Ray and wife Elizabeth of Rushville; 4 grandsons; 2 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and 3 step great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a half -sister and a great granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church Rushville with viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Pastor Greg Steible will preside and burial will be in the Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Awareness Association or First Presbyterian Church of Rushville.
