John (Jack) Leslie Brees was born Feb.y 26, 1930 in Benton County, Indiana to Leslie and Maggie (Ellison) Brees.
He married Vera Joann (Mahin Leonard) Oct. 25, 1991.
Survivors include one son John Steven Brees (Tammy) of Wanamaker, three daughters Joetta Kirk, Janet (Evan) Piper, and Joyce (John) Thompson all of Rushville. Two stepsons Scott (Cathy) Leonard of Rockwall, Texas and Todd (Shingo Ono) Leonard of Fakaokin, Japan. Nine grandchildren Jason Wicker, Justin Wicker, Emily (Matt) Cain, Brianne (Alsman) Brewer, Jameson (Becky) Alsman, Jennifer Brees, Ashley (Tyler) Rangland, Jennifer Bronstrup, and Luke Bronstrup. One step grandson Bryce Leonard. 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Jack graduated from Milroy High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy and the US Army Reserve. He drove a school bus for Rush County Schools over 30 years and owned Jack's Sales & Service for over 40 years. Jack was a long time member of Milroy Christian Church where he served as both deacon and elder. He was a past Master and a 50 year member of the Milroy Masonic Lodge #139. He was a past President of Milroy Community Club, served on the Milroy Economic Development Committee, and served several years on the Milroy Fire Department. Jack was a part of the first EMT class as well as one of the original founders of the EMS ambulance service of Milroy for many years. Jack served 5 yrs as a Rush County Deptuty In 2007 Jack was awarded the Citizen of the year by the Milroy Community Club.
Visitation will be Wednesday Sept. 14th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Milroy Christian Church with Masonic Services at 7:30. Services will be held Thursday Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Ron Simbro Burial in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery, Shelbyville.
