Jay C. Stainbrook, 73, of Milroy, passed away on July 18, 2016. Jay was the son of Lloyd R. Stainbrook and Helen Pike Stainbrook and born on Sept. 28, 1942 in Shelbyville.
Jay was a graduate of Southwestern High School in 1960, married Beth Benson Stainbrook on May 28, 1977 and retired from the Rush County Highway Department in 2008. He was a member of the Milroy Christian Church, Rushville Elks Lodge #1307, Teamster Union Local 135, Milroy Coyote Club and President of the Anderson Twp. Regional Sewer Board and Milroy Utilities Corp., serving both boards for 30+ years.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Mae Brinson (Hubert) and Debbie Keene; and bother-in-law, Ralph Colestock. He is survived by his wife; sons, Charles B. Bergman (Kris) of South Bend and Kent R. Stainbrook (Tiffany) of Milroy; daughters, Kristy Green of Hope and Kim Wheeler of Green Bay, Wisconsin; brother, Jerry L. Stainbrook (Marlinda ); sister, Reba Fren Simpson ( Robert)of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Robert M. Benson; and sister-in-law Barbara Colestock. Jay had one grandson, Matthew Bergman, and many nieces and nephews who he loved.
Jay as a young man loved stock car racing and won several championships on the dirt track in North Vernon. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was the pit crew for his son (Kent) when he was drag racing. He loved IU basketball and football, the Colts and the Pacers. Jay was fanatic about taking care of his yard, pond and woods. He loved playing poker with his buds, Friday night date night with his wife and always had time for his friends.
All services will be held at the Milroy Christian Church, 201 E. Main Street, Milroy, IN 46156. Viewing will be Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 1 to 7 p.m. and funeral will be Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. Reverend Ronald Simbro will officiate and burial will be at East Brook Cemetery in Milroy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milroy Christian Church P.O. Box 275, Milroy, IN 46156. Arrangements were entrusted to Burns Funeral Home in Milroy.
