James E. Vogel, 89, life time resident of Rush County, passed away on Oct. 22, 2016 in Rushville.
He was born on June 3, 1927 in Rush County, IN to the late Earl and Eva (Mercer) Vogel. Jim was a 1945 graduate of New Salem High School. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the Korean War. He married Barbara Mohr on March 29, 1953 and she preceded him in death on March 14, 2002. Jim was a Rush County Farmer all his life in Richland Township. He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Andersonville Masonic Lodge F & AM and a charter member of the New Salem Lions Club. Jim was an avid golfer, a Cincinnati Reds and IU Basketball fan.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Pam) Vogel of Rushville and Jon (Vivian) Vogel of Dayton, OH; 3 grandchildren, Ashleigh (Cole) Ritter, Justin Vogel, and Sarah Vogel; 3 great grandchildren, Stella Vogel, Reece Ritter, and one on the way.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Mohr) Vogel and son, Jay Vogel.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Moster Mortuary, Rushville. Masonic services will be held Tuesday evening at 6:45. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Oct. 26, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary with Pastors Mike Hedrick and Mike Bare presiding. Burial will be in the Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Rush County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Rushville Public Library, the New Salem United Methodist Church, or Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation/Sheehan Cancer Center.
