Lt. Col. Glenn E. Thompson Jr. age 90, passed away Oct. 10, 2017.
He was born Dec. 16, 1926 in Mount Hope, WV, the son of the late Glenn & Helen (White) Thompson Sr. He married Catherine Edna Hoeing Jan. 15, 2009 in Inverness, FL and she survives.
Glenn finished high school and then served in the military as an operating room technician aboard a US Coast Guard troop transport. He also saw service in the European and Pacific Theaters of operation. After his discharge in World War II, he earned his BA from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV, followed by earning his MA from West Virginia University. He then worked as a teacher at Morgantown High School before he was recalled to active duty for the Korean War.
He applied for and was given a presidential appointment as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corp. Highlights of of his duty were in Japan for two years and three years in France. Later he had a tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired from active duty after a two and half year tour at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Glenn then had a teaching position in Bladensburg, MD, followed by a teaching position at Exeter High School in New Hampshire where he retired. Glenn's favorite hobbies were making woodencrafts, puzzles and coin collecting which started when he was young.
He is survived by his loving wife Edna Hoeing Thompson of Rushville and many other relatives and friends.
