George's Story

George "Poptart" "Rocky" Blare, 97, of Greensburg passed away on Jan. 15, 2017.
He was born on March 8, 1919 in Gays, Illinois, the son of George Alfred and Fern (Oakes) Blare. Rocky graduated from Matton High School and then attended Butler University, on a Football Scholarship, before joining the United States Army Air Corp. He married, the love of his life, Barbara Ruth Kelly on December 21, 1943 at the Butler University Chapel. Together they had two children. Rocky was a manager at Minears and later worked at Aryway. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Trustee for 22 years and was also a member of the American Legion, and ELKS. Rocky was the rock of his family. His sweet loving personality was enjoyed by everyone. He had an incredible sense of humor and had attended numerous sporting events for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also had a green thumb for his roses and garden.
Survivors include: Wife- Barbara Blare; Children- Stephen Blare and Susan (Harvey) Peggs; Sister- Jean Blaskie. Grandchildren- Scott (Teena) Seibel, Sherry (Chris) Woolston, Kelly (Blare) Terrell, Jennifer (Dustin) White, Sonya (Stu) Fontaine, Dr. Cara (Dr. Troy Payner) Peggs, Bryan (Jolinda) Peggs, Joe (Missy) Peggs, and Julia (Mike) Reydell; Great Grandchildren- Paul, Emily, Jeffrey, Blare, McKenzie, Bram, Blane, Inara, Kolin, Micah, Madalyn, Brianna, Clayton, Matthew, Julius, Wesley, Mackenzie, Kennedy, Devin, Dillon, Mandy, Drake, Brittany, Greta, and Charlie; and 11 Great Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: Sisters- Barbara Shannon and Mary Matheney; Son in Law- Ralph "Bub" Seibel; Grandson- Jeffrey Scott Seibel.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 from 12 p.m. to the time of the Funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Robert McAuley will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
