Charles A. Miller, 82, of Butlerville, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen. The Rev. Jeremy Gries will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2016, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery in Westport.
Born October 19, 1933, in Hodgenville, KY, Charles was the son of Henry and Mildred (Smith) Miller. He graduated from Paris Crossing High School in 1954, where he was a star athlete in cross country, track and basketball. He married Joanne Mick on October 16, 1955, and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2008.
Charles worked as a tool and die maker and was employed by North Vernon Forge for 43 years. He was a member of the former St. Denis Catholic Church, and more recently of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen. He enjoyed gardening, tending to the farm and raising cows, and loved his faithful dog, Tommy. Charles enjoyed watching his grand and great-grandchildren's sporting events, and eating meals out with his family. He was an avid IU basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan.
Survivors include a son, David (Cheryl) Miller of Butlerville; four daughters, Julie Tindell of Columbus, Janet (Mike) Pickett of North Vernon, Judy (Ben) Hartwell of Greensburg, and Jeanine (David) Yager of Rushville; a brother, Phil (Linda) Miller of Columbus; two sisters, June (Bob) King of Forest, Indiana, and Janie (Donnie) Hardesty of Columbus; 18 grandchildren, Jeremy, Timothy, Ryan, Autumn and Adrian Miller, James, and Cassie Tindell, and Anna Hammond, Kane Barker, Elizabeth, Jessica, Charlee and Daniel Combs, Arika, Levi, Jill, Sam and Lily Yager; ten great-grandchildren, Jaden, Izabella, Imaleigh, Luke, Peyton, Parker, Paxton, Landon, Lennon and Preslee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; wife, Joanne; son-in-law, Jim Tindell; four brothers, Kenny, Bud, Otis and Jerry Miller; and two sisters, Dorothy Belcher and Wilma Phillips.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or Mercy Rescue.
