Charles E Farthing, 90, of Rushville, IN, passed away December 11, 2017. Born in Rushville June 15, 1927, he was a son of the late Stella Marie (Gibson) and Osro L Farthing. He married the former Nancy S Wright Dec. 31, 1948 and she survives.
Charles graduated from Rushville High in 1945 and then became the Pepsi Cola distributor in Rush County until 1954. He sold used cars with Henry Campbell from 1948 to 1957 and then operated a Dodge dealership from 1957 until 1997. He owned and operated Farthing's Grocery, delivered steel, operated the Gulf Oil dealership, sold Nationwide Insurance and farmed through his life. Most recently, he was the current owner/operator of Rush County Mini Storage.
He was involved in many civic activities but a few he was proudest of were being a member of the Boys Club Council 33 years, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite and the Rush County Fair Board from 1986-2015. He attended Trinity Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife Nancy, survivors include four daughters, Jane Ann (Steve) Eder, of Jefferson City, MO; Brenda Marie (Eugene) Stanley, Susan Lynn (Larry) Isgrigg, Marilee (Richard) Gardner; two sons Charles E (Teresa) Farthing II, Alan Ray (Bonnie) Farthing, all of Rushville. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren & five step great grandchildren.
Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be 11 AM Friday December 15, 2017 at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory with John Wall officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 4 to 8 PM at Todd's. Burial will be at Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.
