Betty's Story

Betty Jane Eder, 89, of Rushville, passed away November 11, 2017.
Betty was born January 11, 1928 to the late Ethel (Hallawell) and Grover More. She graduated from North Vernon High School in 1946. Following high school, she worked at Muscatatuck State Hospital as a secretary. She married Robert J. Eder on June 12, 1949 in North Vernon, IN.
Her loving family includes: a son Steve (Jane) Eder, of Jefferson City, MO; daughters Karen (Frank) Harpring of Rushville and Lisa Ruttenberg of Cincinnati, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2013, her daughter Mary in 1993, her son-in-law Peter in 2011, and her brother John (Jimmy) More in 1998.
As a younger couple, Betty and Bob enjoyed supper club with their close friends. Betty was a member of the Belles of St. Mary's and St. Mary's Solidarity and Study Club. Betty and Bob helped establish the Rush County chapter of ARC. They were instrumental in the founding of the McGraw Center. Betty was involved in the first preschool for children with special needs in Rush County and was also a volunteer driver and coordinator of transportation for the children.
Betty was very attentive to her grandchildren; Mindy, Jacque, Stacy, Ben, Doug, Adam, and David, and to her great-grandchildren; Analeigh, Zack, Charlie, Mary, Lucy, Nicholas, Andrew and Avery.
She provided a beautiful, loving home environment. She always made everyone's favorite desserts at holiday meals. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, playing the piano, entertaining, and traveling throughout the United States. Family and friends appreciated her welcoming nature and her witty spirit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 14th at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Gries, celebrant. Burial will follow in Rushville's Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, November 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory where all are asked to recite the rosary at 4:00 PM.
